We got some new furniture which you got a sneak peak of a few days ago.
Lately I’ve been horrible at taking “before” pictures. This time it isn’t my fault. It is my mom’s fault. I bought these rattan couches several weeks ago and I think she got tired of seeing the ugly fabric and volunteered to help me recover the cushions. Who was I to say no to free labor so I let her take one cushion to make a pattern. Next thing I know, she was leaving my house with two cushions and the entire bolt of fabric. After that it just snowballed into all of the cushions leaving before I could show you how 80s-tastic they were.
I even went as far as emailing the person from Craigslist whom I bought them from. No luck. Their PC crashed bringing all of the vintage goodness with it. Think of the Golden Girls at the peak of the 80s sprawled out on the bad boys. Although I didn’t manage a picture of the entire ensemble, I managed to take this picture of the cushions.
Is it everything I described? Don’t stare too long. Blanch or Sofia might reach out and bring you back to their 80s styled home.
I kid about my mom taking the cushions to quickly. I was the first one to help load them into her car. I am so thankful that she and my dad decided to stay home during her vacation. As a result, she had a lot of spare days and decided to take on this project for me. She is way more meticulous and nit picky than I am so you can imagine how well the recovered cushions turned out. Imagine no longer, here they are.
She recovered not one couch, but two couches worth of cushions plus little side arm ones. How great is she?
My only contribution to the project was making the throw pillows. She asked me to make them for both couches so they wouldn’t look so plain, but I only had two pillow forms. I have extra fabric and more pillow forms on the way. The rattan was in great shape so we left it au natural. I have a few more ideas to make it an outdoor living area and I hope to finish soon. I just have to buy the rest of this stuff.
Don’t forget: Today is the last day to sign up for the free pillow covers. Go to this post for deets.
So fabulous!! I need to do the same thing. Not due to the old pattern, but my cushions stayed out in the Phoenix sun all summer and dry rotted. I need to sew new covers for them! Thanks for the inspiration.
I used a brand called Richloom Solarium from Fabric.com which says it will withstand 5000 hours of direct sunlight. That is about a years worth of blazing Phoenix sun. The price is also cheaper than a lot of fabrics at Joann.
Nice! Your mom is pretty talented. I think she was motivated after doing your project because she then offered to recover my dining room chairs; however, those chairs are 30 years old so I told her that I’m just going to buy new ones. Some things are not worth saving.
Please let me know if you are getting rid of the chairs. I might want them.
um, you do remember what they look like, right? If you want to sit on a kings chair then by all means you can have them. Some of the legs wobbles so it’s not sturdy. Although it’ll be interesting to see if you can turn what I think is trash into treasure. 🙂
Very nice looking!!!
Thanks!
So who’s the slutty one (Rose)?
Wasn’t she the ditzy innocent one from St.olafe (sp?). Oh wait that’s Betty? Haha oh geez. I’d probably Dorothy or something you know the one that could be a man
They look so nice! Hey how much are pillow inserts? I’m thinking of making pillows for my chairs, unless I win your give away then I don’t have to make much.
Oh btw I look forward to the core four becoming like the golden girls on those bad boys.
You can get pillow forms at Joann for about $12, but I prefer to get them from Fabric.com because they sell fluffier ones for about the same price.
